Regardless of where we live on the planet, this has become a daily mantra for us all – vital to our survival, and the right thing to do. As quilters we already are accustomed to finding new uses for items that normally would go to waste. Can we come up with even more ideas?
We do not advocate a doomsday approach to resolving the ecological problems of our world. We are convinced, however, that the changes that need to take place will not result from government policies, but will arise as a consequence of individual actions. Our actions.
The quilting community is known for its qualities of respect, sharing, caring, generosity, and creativity. And so, in this section we would like to invite all our visitors to share tips, suggestions, ideas, and short tutorials with the larger quilting community, of ways we have found to contribute to conservation efforts. These can be quilting, sewing, or craft related - any great idea to help us all will be deeply appreciated. We would like the main emphasis to be on REDUCING by reusing and recycling materials. E-mail us your idea and we will include it here! If you have photographs, that would be great.
This is an opportunity to show creativity and ingenuity. Combined with a sense of humor… the possibilities are endless. Let’s help each other… we’re waiting to hear from you!
quilt batting
I have been using up scraps of thin quilt batting to pad lap quilts and small doll quilts. I lap them over about 1/4 to 1/2 inch, sew them together with a large zig zag on both sides, and then gently steam press them to take out some of the waves that you inevitably get. They are not beautiful but once in the quilt you would never know the difference. Kay J.
