Here's a tip from Peggy Baker, from Cloudcroft, New Mexico.
In the spring, you can put outside thread, ribbon, bias tape, thin fabric strips. Many birds twine them in their nests. I used to be a docent at a zoo, and they did this there. I would not put out anything with harsh dyes. Also, I believe lengths of 12 inches or less would be best.
