Dresden Plate Coasters

Traditional Dresden Plate blocks in a smaller size are a great choice for coasters. Use two different complementary fabrics and sew sets of six coasters for a quick gift!

1. For each coaster, use the templates from the PDF file below to cut 6 blades from two different fabrics, for a total of 12 blades. Cut 1 circle from a third fabric.

2. Sew the blades together (alternating the fabrics) in quarters, then in halves, and then join the halves together. You should have an open circle in the center.

3. Cut a piece of backing fabric and a piece of batting 6" square.

4. Place the piece of backing (wrong side) on the piece of batting. Center the Dresden blades on the backing, right sides together.

5. Stitch the outside edge of the Dresden blades. Trim and clip the seam.

6. Turn the coaster inside out through the open circle.

7. Appliqué the circle on and quilt the coaster.

And that's how it's done!
