Selecting your Fabrics

Cathedral Window can be made of a wider choice of fabrics than you would use for other patchwork techniques, especially for the “windows”, that can be made of practically any fabric you like. The background squares do take a lot of pressing, so you might want to go with 100% cotton fabric to be on the safe side, although you should not limit yourself to this if you would like to experiment with other fabrics. What you should avoid is any crease-resistant fabric or any fabric that could shrink during pressing.

As to colors, it is up to you to decide if you want to go with the “classic” look and use a cream-colored fabric for your background squares, or experiment with other colors. Or you can even make your quilt scrappy for an interesting effect...
