1. On 1-inch graph paper, draw the finished size desired for your triangle (in this example, we are working with a 3-inch triangle).

2. Mark the center point of each side of the triangle and draw lines from each corner to the center point of the opposite line.

3. Using the illustration as a guide, erase lines until you have only three triangles inside the larger triangle.

4. Trace each of the three triangles onto template plastic or thin cardboard and cut out. Place each triangle in place on top of the drawing and then turn each one back so that its longest edge is aligned with the corresponding edge of the drawn triangle. Trace the outside lines.

5. Trace the resulting figure on a new piece of graph paper, marking the center point but omitting all other lines. Trace new lines from the center (0) to each one of the corners.

6. Trace triangles A, B, and C onto template plastic or thin cardboard and cut out. Place each triangle in place on top of the drawing and then turn each one back so that its longest edge is aligned with the corresponding edge of the drawn triangle, as indicated in the illustration. Repeat this process with each triangle template. You now have the template for the finished size of your triangle block.

7. Don’t forget to add a 1/4” seam allowance on your template.
